Anne Howden writes with an an update and news about Walsall Tapestries.
The project is well underway, Libby contacted me and has produced a lovely panel see below photos and I'm working on the leather panel for the central walsall tapestries, see work in progress photo, along with running 3 Basic goldwork workshops.
The 11 tapestries are really coming alive with Hunt Emersons art work, we are getting close to the finishing post and during Nov/ December we will be making the tapestries up to be framed up ready for the launch.
I've been heavily involved advising the Council Team and the 11 lead stitchers, from the beginning back in February and it goes on show 20th January 2017 at Walsall New Art Gallery and then phew! ive managed to secure a gallery at the Fashion and Embroidery NEC March Exhibition, with Magazine articles also being worked on. plus my links at the RSN means they will aslo be invited to the launch. my piece on the tapestry is called 11 tapestries, 11 months, and the eleveth hour!
There is still time for stitchers to get involved it will mean joining some of the established community groups in and around Walsall.
I'm just on my 3rd goldwork workshop now which has included 3 basic techniques, padding, wire couching threads and chipping, all preparation for the goldwork pieces which are planned for their tapestries. I worked up a basic Daisy design see below and luckily my workshops have gone well.
